Corrective Measures from TWRA

Attention:  All Big Valley Resort Residents

 ● If pets are fed outside, please stay with the pet and ensure there is no food left. Do not leave the pet’s bowls outside, bring them inside.

● Birdfeeders should never be outside.

● Remove refrigerators and freezers from porches and outdoor areas. If it is not feasible to remove the refrigerator or freezer, install marine locks or electric unwelcome mats to protect them.

● Do not leave garbage outside. Dispose of garbage in the bear resistant dumpsters provided by Big Valley Resort.

TWRA has concluded based on their direct observations that the bears are foraging in Big Valley because the human-provided foods are easily accessible.  As a result, bears lose their fear of humans which can result in serious injury to people as well as the bears would have to be trapped and euthanized.
